She hides her grieving with polite courtesies; she hides the deep dark howling inside her ribs with pretty trinkets. They don’t pay attention to the shadows she throws when she stands tall, only focus on the pale exposed skin of her swan neck. They are blinded by their own arrogance; they do not think one as lovely as her is capable of terror. They try so hard to keep her caged, calling her little bird, cooing, bearing her down with cripples and monsters who ask her to sing.
